Yesterday, Deutsche Bank reported that the Motorola Xoom was not shifting anywhere near enough units to compete with the iPad. The figures had come from the Android market share which lists what amount of its OS is installed, and the OS 3.0 Honeycomb with is only available on the Xoom so far is only 0.2% of the market share with they predict is 100,000 units. But 100,000 units means that there are only 50 Million Android devices in the world, much under what Google expected. Dixons UK have started to address this issue by sending e-mails to everyone that pre-ordered the device will get a £20 refund directly to their card in the next few days, making the price of the Xoom £479.99 instead of £499.99. The price though may need to go down even more. The price though is not a Dixons to decide but them making it £20 less means that they are trying to pull in sales by paying the extra £20 themselves. Dixons with this will have to end up with £499.99 from the Xoom and as with any sale they will start losing money. It is now down to Motorola to lower the price of its device or maybe introduce an WiFi only version and make that £399.99 like the iPad 2. So far though the Xoom has only been available outside of the US so it's a bit early to predict it's future.
